ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is the practice of placing very thin needles in specific points on the body. Stimulation of these points affects the flow of Qi through channels on the body known as meridians. Qi is the life force that is responsible for the ability of cells, organs and body systems to function. In Eastern veterinary medicine, an animal in a state of health has a harmonious flow of Qi, while an animal in a state of disease has an interruption in the flow of Qi. By needling the proper acupuncture points, the balance of Qi is restored, and the animal is restored to a state of health.

A more Western explanation of acupuncture is that acupuncture points are rich in nerves and blood supply and when they are stimulated, a cascade of events result. Most importantly is that nerves are stimulated - some of which directly affect organ function, and some that cause a blockage of the pain pathway as well as a release of endorphins, natural pain relieving substances produced by the body, and that blood flow is increased to specific tissues or organs.

HERBAL THERAPY

Herbal Therapy involves the use of specific Chinese herbs in a balanced formula to help correct the diagnosed imbalance of Qi and restore the animal to a state of health. It is usually used in conjunction with acupuncture initially, though the animal may eventually be able to maintain health with herbal therapy alone.

LASER ACUPUNCTURE

Laser acupuncture simply refers the use of a medical laser to stimulate the acupuncture points. This method is especially useful in patients that are extremely shy of needles and/or have such chronic conditions that the acupuncture points are sensitive when treatment is initiated.

LASER THERAPY

Laser therapy is a holistic modality in which high energy light is applied to the skin which stimulates the function and healing of cells and tissues.
